Malcolm von Schantz MD. Ph.D.
Malcolm von Schantz studied Biology and Chemistry at Lund University in his native Sweden. He started his PhD work there with a 3.5-year sandwich period at University of California Los Angeles. He was a Swedish Natural Science Research Council postdoctoral fellow at Imperial College, London, in the laboratory of Russell Foster, and was appointed as an academic staff member at the University of Surrey in 1997. Following four years of service as Vice-Dean (International) for the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, and six months as acting Vice-Rector for International Relations, he is has recently commenced a research sabbatical as a Visiting Professor at the Department of Cardiopneumology at USP. His research focuses on molecular aspects of circadian rhythms and sleep, and has been published in journals such as Science, Current Biology, and PNAS. His work has been funded by the BBSRC, the MRC, the Wellcome Trust, the Royal Society, and the US Air Force Office of Scientific Research.
